The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is the federal regulatory agency that provides safety and health standards to protect people in the workplace. OSHA encourages States to develop and operate their own job safety and health programs. These state programs must set job safety and health standards that are "at least as effective as" the federal standards. California administered its own occupational health and safety program called “The California Occupational Safety and Health Act (Cal/OSHA).”
